Sled ride at Newberg, OR 11/10/15

Dave Blizzard and I spend about 2.5 hrs of work at Johnson's farm (Newberg Big LZ) this afternoon while the flying conditions wasn't quite ready. We dug two holes and set up two gate posts on one side of the drive way. We need to go back again to dig two more post holes on the south side. If anyone interested in helping please let me or Dave know.

We went up to launch around 3:30pm and meet up Steve F and two others paras. The wind were just too light (2-3 mph) so we all had a nice smooth sledders. I landed at the bottom LZ in no wind conditions.

Sled ride at Newberg, OR 11/9/15

Report from Steve Forslund:

Rick L and I flew in a light cycle, wind was real light north with clouds above moving south. Rick worked some small bubbles out front and made his way out to the hang lz. I was able to work the ridge briefly before going out front where the lift was too small and weak to work. Rick was able to dry his wing and I got my gliders folded up and enjoyed the sun

Sled ride at Newberg, OR 11/8/15

It was pouring rain and hailing this afternoon at Newberg. I arrived launch at 12:30pm and it was soarable with a very low clouds ceiling. Few paragliders got about 20 mins soarable flight. Then the rain came at 1:00pm The launch was socked in again with rain /hail, thunders, gusty winds......etc. The nasty weather finally over around 3:30pm but the wind also died down so I took a sled ride.

Sled Ride at Peterson 11/6/15

The forecast was spot on as expected.  Peterson's conditions was light south and switched to light west around 3:30pm today. Three of us launched at 3:00pm in light cycles at about 0-2mp wind. It turns out being no glassoff, but only delivered a short sled ride for us. The air was very calm all the way from launch to LZ.

Here's my video from today at Top Peterson.

Bingen, Wash skunked report 11/4/15

Today at Bingen, 3 paras (Michael C, Eric M and Sol)  and 2 hangs (Mark and myself) headed up at launch around 11:30am. Mark did most of the hiking carrying his glider this time with my help on some steep area. So it took us more time get to the west launch.   The winds were blowing about 8-12mph by the time Mark and I arrived launch at 1:00pm.  It was perfect soarable condition for hangs and bags.  3 paras launched quickly and got some good soaring flight before the wind picked up speed exceeding to unpleasant conditions.   By the time we were done setting up around 2:30pm, the winds continued to excel to approx 18 to 25+mph. Paraglider Eric reported that the LZ was blowing 15mph. I thought it was too strong for Mark, so we waited in hopes that the wind will decrease later. The conditions were tempting and I was offered by Mark to take the flight, however, doing that would leave him being alone at launch , so I decided to wait with him. Unfortunately the wind never die down. By around 4:00pm we decided to pack up.  Bingen is the worst place to get skunked having to hike back in the dark with the glider,  we have to walk back to the truck to pick up the Kayak carts first.......  but I do think that we made a wise decision. Thank God that we did not ask the para friends to drive Mark's ruck down to the LZ.   I'm exhausted right now and need to get some sleep ASAP.

Rick Weber reported three hangs had a sled rides at lower Peterson today.

1.5 hrs/ 2 flights Dog Mt (Glenoma, Wash) 11/3/15

About today,  there were a lot of NE wind at Dog so we all launch from the north side. I took a AM sled ride before everyone showed up then catch the ride up with Gabe for the second flight. I launched again at 3:00pm followed by Gabe and Alfredo.  We all got over launch immediately.  Alfredo and I flew for 1.5 hrs, Gabe got about 40 mins.  We had several sweet, strong climbs with the peak altitude about 850ft over launch.  Elk was working too, but returning back to Dog patch with east head wind made me feel uncomfortable so I didn't stay there too long.  It turned out being a great day at Dog.

1 hour flight at Chehalem (Newberg, OR) 10/29/15

Chehalem ridge was dry and soarable this afternoon. The low thick fog hung around launch till 2:45pm. I launched at 3:00pm (8-13mph straight up wind) and had over one hours flight. The highest I got was about 400ft above launch. It was a bit turbulent so others decide not to fly.  Winds were pretty light from the south at the big LZ when I landed at 4:05pm. It was dead calm by the time I done packing up my glider. I went back to launch around 5pm and it was still blowing 5-8 mph straight up. A PG pilot Eric Miller showed up at 5:45pm and took two sled rides.
