2 flights 4.5 hrs air time at Dog Mtn (Glenoma, WA) 5/19/17

About 15 pilots out for Dog Mtn on Friday.  It turned on around 11:30am with unlimited air times for everyone.  I had two flights (1st :12 to 2:15pm / 2nd : 4 to 6:10pm) total of 4.5 hours of air time. Lift was abundant everywhere.  Max altitude gains for myself was 1200ft above launch (2600ft AGL) over the Elk Mtn (across the river) with Jonathan.  All in all, it was a very good Dog day!

Two flights today. 

1st- Cape Lookout: an hour flight 

2nd- Oceanside: Scary scary sledder. 

It was very light and too west at CLO today. A few PGs launched in the morning was able to stay up.  When l was ready to launch, most of them were starting to sink out and landed so l was expecting a sledder.  I decided to launch at 1pm because tide was coming up.  Ray launched right after me.  Surprisingly,  there was a lot of smooth weak thermals, so we both flew for an hour.  My max altitude was 950ft and Ray got couple hundred feet higher than me. Beach was disappearing quickly and it was barely soarable so we headed out to landed. The landing condition was quite challenging due to cross West and WSW wind and with narrow limited dry beach.  I landed in North direction in 90 degree cross wind and some landed south; either way works fine for today. 

Afterwards, we headed to Oceanside (some PGs went to Sollie). There was plenty of beach at Oside during high tide and wind at the beach were blowing light WNW and west.  Unfortunately, it was light and too north when l got ready to launch. All l felt was rotors, rowdy air, too close to the trees, ....etc.  So l just headed straight to landing to end the scary ride. l had great landings for both flights.

 Five hangs (Dave L, Andrey G, Gabe D, Tim D , myself) and one para (Kim) at Dog today. Everyone had a great long flight.  The wind was blowing very cross (SW) and a bit gusty when l launch. I flew for over 3 hrs from 3 to 6:15pm. The thermals was punchy with strong sink around it during the first 1.5 hrs of my flight.  I reached 3700 ft MSL (1500ft above launch) over the back bowl. Made it to Elk few times but didn't feel any lifts there.

Sat Report:

Indeed, what a fun day it turned out to be. First flight l was up for 3.5 hrs and I think l launched at 6:00pm on the 2nd flight. The lifts got even better in the evening. Stas and l really enjoyed the buoyant smooth air.  It was an easy climbed up to 2300ft and found more lift lines going to North point.  I flew for an hour on the 2nd flight.  The winds were still blowing NNW 10-15mph at launch at 8:30pm and had plenty of beach for landing.  Great day!  Similar forecast tomorrow (sunday).  Stas and l are spending the night at Tilllamook, we will head out to CLO tomorrow after breakfast.

CLO Sunday Report. (1 bag and 5 hangs flew)

Interesting conditions at Oceanside today. Unlike the usual smooth coastal air, we experienced some weird stuff, such as: multiple lift lines from launch to North point mixed with rotors, strong washing machine kind of thermals at North point.... etc. I'll let Steve and Neil explain more in details...

It turned on much earlier than yesterday and was already blowing 5-10mph NNW around 10am.  Paraglider Derek launched at 10:30am climbed straight up few hundreds feet above launch and parked. The winds kept increasing so other paragliders decided not to fly. Derek landed before l launched. I flew for 4 hrs from 11:50am to 3:55pm. Made a few trips to last North point ridge and reached 2600ft. I spent a long time at the North point because the thermals there were very consistent. Everyone had great long flights. Hang pilots who flew today : Stas, Steve S, Neil C, Greg K and myself. Also, there were a few aircrafts in our air space. I can almost see one of the plane's license number. I will check my gopro later.  Also, Gabe stopped by CLO launch to greet us before heading down to Kiwanda to fly tandem with his wife.

Classic CLO day. 2 hours 30 minutes plus, 3200 ft North point cloudbase early . Beautiful clouds, 4 whales hanging out on back side south Cape Lookout.It got a little strong for most paragliders later but basically 340° at 17-20 mph at cruising altitude. Steve was only one going over back today, making TDM I heard. Plenty of beach for once. Rick, Darrin Darsey, Stas, Roone, Jeff, Jonathon, and too many paragliders to remember all. Fun times. Rick and Stas were setting up to fly as I left for their 2nd flight. Ray
