July 5th
A very quiet 4th of July weekend at Lakeview.

Ray Berger, Jeff Forrest (our awesome driver) and I arrived Lakeview Base Camp on Thursday evening , and noticed no one around but discovered later that everyone had already left. We headed to Sugar Hill launch the next morning around noon and spotted Ichi, a California hang pilot setting up. Two more local hangs (Phillip & Roger) showed up an hour later. Conditions weren't strong, but there was good launch cycles on and off. Ray launched first at 2 pm and I followed right after. We were struggling in front of launch for a while and sank below it a few times during the first 30 minutes of our flight. The other pilots noticed us not doing well, so decided to wait. Fortunately, the scratching session below launch ended soon, and we were able to get some good thermals that took us up to 11,000ft (4,000ft) above launch. Ray headed north over on the backside of Lakeview first then to our campsite LZ. I crossed the valley over the back at 11,000 ft and made it pass Crane Mountain, which is a few miles south of Lakeview and landed right by HWY 395 on the west side on the road (pics enclosed). Flight time is almost 2 hours for me. Thanks to Ray for mentoring and making it a successful XC flight for me. Also, big thanks to our driver Jeff F. We couldn't have done it without him. So glad that Jeff was able to get in a great sunset PG flight at Black Cap, so everyone ended with an awesome day. We are going back to Sugar Hill today for round 2. Hope will see more pilots show up.

July 6th Lakeview Sugar Hill again.

Today was pretty much a repeat of yesterday with stronger winds and better thermal at launch. It was just Ray Berger and l who flew Sugar Hill. I launched first at 1:30 and immediately got up to 11,000ft (4K above launch) with max altitude of 12,000ft -13,000ft. Easy glide to Fandango Valley behind launch and landed a mile north of the next town New Pine Creek. Ray Berger made it to the Base Camp LZ just as he did yesterday.

Ray Berger report:
I landed at Hunters RV/ Basecamp-my tent first 2 days. 12,000+ first day , 11,000+ second day. 1 1/2 hour each day to BlackCap and then flew around for half hour both days but never beamed up again enough for the altitude to go to Abert's Rim Kory. A couple vario photos enclosed.
Rick was patient and skied out at Sugar Mtn. each day before crossing Fandango Pass to the ridge and Warner Mtns. to Lakeview. Easy for Rick, like a pro.
The 3rd day we elected to go to Doherty as a change but it was another Sugar Mtn. day for sure. Jeff our driver soared Lakeview Black Cap one evening too.
Hadley Butte, Winter Ridge looked great about noon when we drove by today. Our new friends from Idaho, Steve and Charity Harper text they had good flights day before out there and a soak in Summer Lake hot springs on their way home. They flew BlackCap several days and paramotor also July 4 over Fairqgrounds before the fireworks. We saw Dave Beardsley from San Diego and Jim and Diane Feely. Jim flew on our second day at BlackCap as I flew into town from Sugar.
Great driving and fun by Jeff and Rick is a delight as we all know. We had an extra driver, Ken, each day, go figure? Ken fed us one evening with trout he caught that day.. Good times.
