2 hrs at Cape Lookout 4/19/18

CLO Thursday flight report:
The weather stations around Cape Lookout showed 15+ mph NW winds and clouds moving quickly above launch along with whitecaps out front; Kiwanda and Sollie was blowing hard too... . Unfortunately, there wasn't much wind at CLO launch, which I believe was due to a "Heat (Thermal) Block " effect kind of day, as it was warm at launch. A couple of PGs had sledders around 1pm. The 4pm 5.5ft high tide arrived quickly and the beach (in front of the gazebo) was under water between 1pm to sunset. Rigid wing pilot Rick Christian (from Bend) punched off around 3:30pm with his power harrness ; he got up to 5,000ft and went to Kilchris and Kiwanda. PG Jim Baldo returned from Sollie LZ and reported being too strong to fly there. He launched at CLO around 4pm in light winds and flew for 30 mins until sinking out. PG Nick Fulmor launched before me around 5:45 pm in very light conditions and got up above launch for a short period before sinking out 20 mins later. I launched at 6pm expecting a sled ride and prepared to land below launch but as I was doing my usual flight pattern turning left, I caught some consistent ridge lifts and gained altitude slowly. The winds were more NNW and I began to climbed up to 1,200ft once crossing the gap to the north facing Cape, which lasted from 6 - 8:15 (over 2 hours). Will post video/more pics later.
Rick Christian and Scott Michalek are spending a night and planned on flying Sollie and Oceanside tomorrow. I'll be heading home tonight.
