Unexpected thermic conditions at Oceanside 4/14/19

Where to learn Hang Gliding in Pacific Northwest:

Oceanside was quite good today with some unexpected thermic conditions. I was the only hang with more then a dozen friendly PGs. Flight times of an hour to 2 plus hours for all. I punched off around 3pm at 5-8mph with almost straight west wind for my second flight right after a few squalls passed through. There was a lot of big cloud thermals in front of the second house on the left that took me to 1,500 to 2,000ft over the Back Bowl. After awhile of doing the usual routine flying to Happy Camp, Netarts , Superman launch , the wind switched and became more north around 4pm dying down a lot as well. Everyone landed and left Oceanside for Cape Lookout. Unfortunately, the winds there were too light and too south so a few PGs took sledders to end the day.
