Oceanside Open 2017 Day 1 & 2 / 2 flights 4.5 hrs

 Day one video:

Day two video:

Oregon coast Oceanside Open Fly In 2017. Day 1(Sat).
3 hrs flight from 5 to 8pm.

I arrived Oceanside launch around 1pm and hang-waited for hours due to the nonstop on/off rain squalls and strong gusty wind speed of 25-30mph. I was told it was blowing 40 mph this morning. The rain finally stopped at 4:20pm with the wind dropping down to approx 15-20mph out of SSW. I made my first launch at 5:10pm and flew for 3 hours (landed at 8:05pm) and topped out 1,300ft. There was a lot of rotor/sink when l launched, as the actually wind direction was more south. I had the entire sky to myself for a couple of hours, until later joined by two more hangs (Gabe and Ken launched after 7:00pm) when the wind turned more west and a bit lighter. Gabe and l headed down to Happy Camp sharing the south facing ridge with paragliders, Steve Carpentier and Dave Auman who launched off from Superman lower launch earlier.

Oceanside Open 2017 Day 2.
1.5 hrs flight from 5 to 6:30pm

Today's weather is a repeat of yesterday with gloomy skies and more rain.  I arrived launch at 9:30am,  winds at 15 mph WSW with gusts to 25 mph. Rechecked again around noon and it had dropped down between 10-20+ mph.  There was a few dry windows that lasted for about 30-45 mins before another squall approach. It would have been a perfect hang soaring day if there wasn't so much squalls. Everyone had left by 3:00pm; I decided to hang out at launch and decided to fly around 4:30pm.  Launched at 5:10pm on the south side and it was really gusty. It felt like 10-20 mph wind when I punched off and 25-30mph at 1300ft. Way more rowdy than yesterday flight.  Flew for hour and 15 mins because big squall was approaching.
Done packing up right before the rain arrived. Hiked up to retrieve my van in the rain.

Bad weather for both days as you can see from the below pics:
